Words that work

Technical writing is really about putting words, pictures, and people together to accomplish a set of tasks.

To do it well, you have to know your audience, and know what information will help them be successful with the product you’re supporting.

You also have to understand how people learn, and how to produce learning materials that deliver the needed information as clearly and efficiently as possible.

You don’t need to be a technical guru—that’s what engineers are for—but you do need to understand what helps and what hinders clear communications.

What good tech writers do better than anyone else is provide a channel of special-purpose information between the engineers who develop technology and the people who have important tasks to accomplish using that technology. The required information is transferred to the target audience in immediately usable form—so the important work gets done.

With highly-developed writing, editing and visual design skills, and over twenty years of experience delivering user-assistance materials for the IT marketplace, I’m sure that together we can combine the right words and pictures for your target audience.
